After Fernando Pimenta's gold medal in the K1 1000 meters, João Ribeiro, Messias Baptista, and Pedro Casinha, canoeists from Benfica, also became European champions in the K4 500 meters on the morning of Saturday, June 21, winning the A final of the European Sprint Championships in Racice, Czech Republic.

His boat, which also carried Gustavo Gonçalves, was the first to complete the distance (in 1:19.319 minutes), beating the quartets from the host country (2nd, +0.213) and Poland (3rd, +0.323).

Hours later, João Ribeiro competed again in the K1 500 meters, finishing in 9th place with a time of 1:42.045 minutes.
