On Sunday, June 22, Fernando Pimenta won the gold medal in the K1 5000 meters at the European Canoe Sprint Championships, held in Racice, Czech Republic.

The star of an impeccable race, the Benfica canoeist became European champion by covering the distance in 21:14.874 minutes, beating Hungary's Adam Varga (21:15.984 minutes) and Denmark's Mads Pedersen (21:17.760 minutes), who joined him on the podium.

Fernando Pimenta added this title to the one he won the day before (Saturday, June 21) in the K1 1000 meters, in the European Championships.
