Another moment of great pride for Benfica and Portugal. After winning silver in the 100-meter butterfly, the victory in the 50-meter freestyle, and climbing to the top of the podium at the European Under-23 Championships in Samorin, Slovakia, once again raise the name of Sport Lisboa e Benfica and Portugal.

It is with great honor that I offer my congratulations and highlight the spirit of achievement and class of our elite swimmer.

Benfica fought until the end for a different outcome in the last 16 of the Club World Cup, but after extra time they fell to Chelsea (1-4), thus ending their journey in the first edition of the competition in the United States of America. In a game that was interrupted in the 86th minute due to the threat of a thunderstorm and ended almost five hours after the kick-off, Di María leveled the score at 90'+5' (1-1), taking the match into 30 minutes of extra time, during which time the result hung in the balance for the English at the Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte.
