SL Benfica's youth football program will have a new Technical Director starting in 2025/26.
02 July 2025, 15h00
With a degree in Physical Education and Sport, specializing in High Performance Football, from the Faculty of Sports Science and Physical Education at the University of Porto, Joaquim Milheiro has extensive experience in the technical area of football, particularly in relation to the development of young players, both in Portugal and internationally.
As a coach, he began his career in the youth ranks of CD Feirense, moving on to clubs such as Leixões SC, Padroense FC, FC Porto, Portimonense SC, Interclube de Luanda, Raja Casablanca, and FC Vaslui.
"Believe in everything we do, because we will wear the jersey with great pride and honor, and we will always give our all for Benfica."
Joaquim Milheiro
Between 2012 and 2023, he was part of the technical staff of the Portuguese Football Federation and the national youth teams, serving as Methodological Coordinator, Assistant Coach, Head Coach, and Technical Coordinator. In 2022 and 2023, he was also a UEFA Technical Observer.
From 2023 to 2024, he was part of the technical team for Qatar's Under-23 national team.
In the 2024/25 season, he served as Technical Director of Youth Football at Al Hilal SFC.
A long and rich career that now faces a new, exciting, and ambitious challenge: leading the technical area of one of the world's leading training projects! Sport Lisboa e Benfica therefore welcomes Joaquim Milheiro and wishes him every success in his work for our Club!
"VERY HAPPY TO BE PART OF A WORLD-CLASS CLUB"
At Benfica Campus, Joaquim Milheiro spoke to BTV about what this new challenge means for his career.
"I feel very happy, highly honored, and very excited to join a world-renowned club that has cultivated sporting and human excellence throughout its history," he said.
The club's new Technical Director of Youth Football highlighted the challenges and goals that lie ahead.
"It is about us continuing to give great importance to what Benfica football is all about, developing talent, strengthening our playing identity, continuing to evolve the different processes through intense interdisciplinary work, so that Benfica is, and will continue to be, a benchmark in football and in player development," he emphasized.
To conclude, Joaquim Milheiro addressed all Benfica fans directly.
"Be highly confident in what it means to be a Benfica player, because it has a defining characteristic that we believe will help you succeed. Believe in everything we do, because we will wear the jersey with great pride and honor, and we will always give our all for Benfica, continuing to be winners and global leaders," he praised.
