With the victory secured on Wednesday night, August 27, Benfica confirmed its 15th appearance in the last 16 editions of the Champions League and, at the same time, secured its place in the top 10 of the UEFA club ranking for the last 5 years.

The Eagles now have a total of 83,750 points. This result is the sum of the previous four seasons – 20,000 in 2021/22; 25,000 in 2022/23; 14,000 in 2023/24 and 18,750 in 2024/25 – to which are added the 6,000 bonus points awarded for qualifying for the 2025/26 Champions League league phase.

Ranking da UEFA

As a result of its sports performance at the highest level of European football, Benfica is now ranked 10th in the five-year European club ranking, which serves as the basis for determining the seedings in the draws for the three competitions organized by UEFA, as well as for calculating one of the components of the distribution of performance bonuses (European pillar).

Two goals, two works of art from the team

The first two goals that led Benfica to victory over Tondela (3-0) on Saturday night, August 23, in Matchday 3 of the Liga Betclic, perfectly reflect the "collective work" emphasized and praised by Bruno Lage after the most recent game played at Estádio da Luz. “It was essential to vary our build-up play, sometimes with two, sometimes with three, also varying the players so that the opponent had no individual references in pressing. And then, knowing how to find the paths to goal”, said the coach. The plays that led to the 1-0 (more than 30 seconds of possession until Ivanovic's lethal shot) and 2-0 (more than 40 seconds of circulation until Aursnes' shot) are eloquent, a hymn to good football.

Saturday night, August 23, marked the return of the Liga Betclic to the Cathedral. In the 2025/26 edition of the competition, on Matchday 3, Benfica hosted and beat Tondela 3-0, in front of 61,229 fans in the stands. With a powerful start, scoring goals, followed by intelligent management and control, the Eagles secured their main objective, winning three points. Ivanovic (31'), Aursnes (42'), and Prestianni (90'+6') scored the goals in the Reds' well-deserved victory. With strong support from the nearly 62,000 fans who brought color and life to the stands at Estádio da Luz on Saturday night, August 23, Benfica beat Tondela 3-0 in the Matchday 3 of the Liga Betclic 2025/26. Ivanovic (31'), Aursnes (42') and Prestianni (90'+6') sealed the victory and earned three more points in the main national.
