Florentino
The terms of the deal were detailed to the Portuguese Securities Market Commission (CMVM): "Sport Lisboa e Benfica – Futebol, SAD informs that it has reached an agreement with Burnley for the loan of player Florentino Luís until the end of the 2025/26 season, for an amount of €2,000,000 (two million euros). The agreement includes a mandatory clause for the permanent transfer of the player's sports rights for €24,000,000 (twenty-four million euros), bringing the total transfer value to €26,000,000 (twenty-six million euros). It is also noted that Burnley will be entitled to retain the 5% solidarity mechanism for subsequent distribution to the clubs that participated in the player's training, and Benfica SAD will be charged intermediation services of 10% of the remuneration amount deducted from the solidarity amount."
Florentino joined Glorioso in 2010/11 (Under-12), to play 7-a-side football, having completed his entire training at Benfica Campus, up to the B team.
Wearing the Sacred Mantle, he was champion of the Under-15s (2013/14) and Under-19s (2017/18), as well as runner-up in the UEFA Youth League in 2016/17.
On February 10, 2019 – then newly promoted to the first team – at Estádio da Luz, Florentino, aged 19, made his debut for Benfica's senior team, brought on by Bruno Lage – who had coached him in the B team – in the 62nd minute of the historic 10-0, victory against Nacional, on Matchday 21 of the 2018/19 National Championship.
His debut as a starter and in European competitions came four days later (February 14, 2019), in a 1-2 victory over Galatasaray in the first leg of the Europa League round of 32. His first goal came in his 7th game, on March 17, 2019, sealing a 0-4 win against Moreirense in Matchday 26 of the National Championship.
His debut season, in which he made 14 appearances for the professional team, was crowned with his first senior title: the 2018/19 National Championship.
At the start of the 2019/20 season, he helped the Eagles lift the Super Cup after beating Sporting 5-0, at the Estádio Algarve. Florentino played 18 games in that sports year.
In the 2020/21 season, he was loaned to Monaco, playing 11 games. In 2021/22, he represented Getafe in 24 games, again on loan.
Returning to Luz in the summer of 2022, Florentino established himself as a regular option in the red and white midfield (54 games played in the season, a record of his career), contributing to the conquest of the 2022/23 National Championship – the 38th! – the second in his trophy cabinet.
The 2-0 victory over FC Porto at the Estádio Municipal de Aveiro in the opening match of 2023/24 marked the second Super Cup won by Benfica's number 61, who would once again enjoy plenty of playing time throughout the season (45 matches).
In the previous season (2024/25), he again played 45 games, scored 2 goals, and helped win the League Cup, sealed with a victory over Sporting in the penalty shootout, 6-7 (1-1 in regulation time), at the Estádio Municipal de Leiria.
In the current season (2025/26), in which he has played in six matches and scored one goal, the midfielder added a third Super Cup to his career, thanks to the Eagles' 0-1 victory over Sporting at the Estádio Algarve.
Two National Championships, one League Cup, and three Super Cups. This is Florentino's record with the first team, for which he played 182 games and scored four goals.
The Club wishes the Made in Benfica athlete all the best for this new phase of his career. Thank you, Florentino!
