Historic moment at the Club

At Sport Lisboa e Benfica's General Electoral Assembly held on October 25 to elect the governing bodies for the 2025-2029 term, the Club recorded the participation of 86,297 members, setting a world record for turnout in sports club elections—a historic achievement that SLB now wants to see officially recognized by Guinness World Records.

The Club has already begun the process of officially submitting its application and will formally record the entire process, following the guidelines required by Guinness World Records.

On an exciting and intense day at Benfica, the electoral process took place in an organized and efficient manner, with 108 polling stations distributed across Portugal (mainland and islands), Europe, America, and Africa. The record turnout of members – 86,297, of whom, excluding invalid and blank votes, 85,710 cast their vote – was a clear demonstration of democratic vitality and associative involvement.

The Club has also informed Guinness World Records of its goal to register 100,000 members participating in the second round of voting, scheduled for November 8, thereby breaking the world record once again.
