A bunch of administrators - Breakdown
An incomplete mandate caused by, some of the elected, lacking of democratic culture which is in the Benfica’s essence (origin and development).
The three first months, as a president, were not peaceful, mostly because of the negative effects of World War I, with social and political instability in the country, originating a deep crisis to the financial revenues. The existing discomfort in the club was contributing to the directive board breakdown. A group of members, with Cosme Damião on the “head”, got a loan to liquidate the urgent debts, solving a part of the situation. The football team was Lisbon Champion, a title that we only missed once(1914/15), between 1911/12 and 1917(18).
