Telma Monteiro: "I have the conviction that I can be in Paris"

On Monday, December 9, judoka Telma Monteiro announced the end of her sporting career.  It's been “24 very special years”, 17 of which have been spent with an eagle on her chest and, at the time of his farewell, there is “eternal gratitude”. “I'm ending my career exactly as I wanted to, with the feeling that I've given everything I had to give, and that everything was as it should be,” she said. Thank you, Telma!

Benfica athletes Telma Monteiro and Pedro Pichardo were honored by the Portuguese Olympic Committee (COP) on Thursday, November 14, at the 2024 Olympic Celebration, a gala held at SUD Hall Lisbon. Judoka Telma Monteiro was awarded the Prestige Award, which honors “sports agents for the excellence, notability and prestige of their careers”. Pedro Pichardo, triple jump athlete and Paris 2024 silver medalist, received the Sports Excellence Award, which is given to “Olympic medalists, World or European Champions”. Domingos Almeida Lima, Benfica's vice-president, represented the club at the ceremony.

The President of Sport Lisboa e Benfica celebrates his 53rd anniversary this Saturday, March 29. On this same day, in 1972, Rui Costa was born, the child who became a man, with his passion for Benfica always present, in a personal and professional career that has made him a key figure in the Club. In the year that Eusébio da Silva Ferreira would have celebrated his 83rd birthday, a young man with the same name carries the King's name on his back. Born in 2014 and named after the greatest figure in Benfica's history, who had left six months earlier, Eusébio da Silva Vicente, who was also brought into the world in Mozambique, is inspired by the Black Panther's legacy to make his way through Benfica's youth system.
