Foundation offers a helping hand to Cape Verde
The President of the Republic of Cape Verde, José Maria Neves, visited Estádio da Luz for a meeting with Carlos Moia, executive president of the Benfica Foundation, dedicated to humanitarian aid for the island of São Vicente, recently affected by a severe storm. The head of state emphasized the “long-standing and close relationship” between Cape Verde and Benfica, noting that this cooperation “will have a very strong impact on São Vicente”. Carlos Moia stressed that “the people themselves and their needs are important,” guaranteeing that all hospital supplies will be in Cape Verde by mid-September.
Fully focused
Back from Turkey, Benfica's professional football team continued the preparations on Friday morning, August 22, for the visit of Tondela, at the Benfica Campus. Fully focused, Bruno Lage's players trained on the pitch ahead of Saturday's game (8:30 pm) at Estádio da Luz, in Matchday 3 of the Liga Betclic.
Early morning preparation
On Turkish soil, the morning after the Champions League play-off match against Fenerbahçe at the Sükrü Saraçoğlu Stadium, Benfica's professional football team put to work at the Besiktas training center facilities, already preparing for the match against Tondela, from Matchday 3 of the Liga Betclic, scheduled for 8:30 pm, on Saturday at Estádio da Luz. Only the athletes who were not used and the substitutes who played in the Istanbul match trained on the pitch – the rest underwent active recovery in the gym on Thursday, August 21. The tie remains wide open! Benfica and Fenerbahçe drew 0-0 in the first leg of the Champions League play-off, played at the Sükrü Saraçoğlu Stadium in Istanbul. The 2nd leg is scheduled for Wednesday, September 27, at 8 pm, and will decide everything at the Estádio da Luz.
From sunrise to sunset
The day started early for SL Benfica's professional football team! It was still dawn when the Eagles arrived at Lisbon Airport, from where they flew to Istanbul, Turkey. Ahead of the challenge against Fenerbahçe, in the 1st leg of the Champions League, group stage play-off, already on Turkish soil, right after the previews by coach Bruno Lage and the defender António Silva, the reds trained at Sükrü Saraçoğlu Stadium, the venue for Wednesday's match, August 20, scheduled for 8:00 pm in mainland Portugal. Having overcome Nice, SL Benfica's professional football team now faces Turkish side Fenerbahçe in the play-off for a place in the Champions League group stage. The first leg is scheduled for Wednesday, August 20, at the Sükrü Saraçoğlu Stadium in Istanbul. In the run-up to the match, the Eagles held their usual training session to adapt to the pitch, the first few minutes of which were open to the media. Kick-off is scheduled for 8 pm in mainland Portugal.
Mission Champions League: Heading to Turkey
On the eve of playing Fenerbahçe in the first leg of the Champions League play-off, Benfica's professional football team traveled from Lisbon on a charter flight to Istanbul, Turkey. At Humberto Delgado Airport, before the departure, which was scheduled for 8 am, on Tuesday, President Rui Costa expressed his “great confidence” in a brief statement about the Champions League match looming on the horizon for the Eagles.
High intensity before Istanbul
On Monday, August 18, Sport Lisboa e Benfica's professional football team held their last training session at Benfica Campus before traveling to Turkey. Next Wednesday, August 20, at 8 pm, continental time, the Eagles will face Fenerbahçe. The match, at Sükrü Saraçoğlu Stadium in Istanbul, is the first leg of the Champions League play-off.
