“It was a great year”

Rui Vitória, after the 2-1 winning in the Portuguese Cup, talked about the match against V.Guimarães and the 2016/17 season, which led to "dobradinha" (Championship and Portuguese Cup).

"It was a great year. We started with the Supercup and ended with the victory of the Portuguese Cup. It is a strong group and it was a year which culminates with what we wanted and we are very satisfied", he declared.

The opponent of the Final was also a subject to compliments: "A word of appreciation to V.Guimarães, for what they did during the season and this match. They turned it difficult for us, but on the second half we did it right and had more objectivity in the offensive moves. V.Guimarães tried to get back to the match but we also could have scored more."

The season is concluded and so it begins the speculation about the market. Rui Vitória gave no space for conversations. "I have contract and I'm happy in Benfica. I'm a person of convictions and I got a work to do here. Our country has a youth trainer football and it’s natural if someone leaves the club. If this situation occurs we will find someone for the position, in order to maintain a competitive team", he said.

Encouraged to talk about the Benfica's hegemony (won 11 of the last 15 trophies), the coach was conclusive: "We don’t want to be more than anybody else. We want to be ourselves and we will keep fighting for titles."
