In Matchweek 2 of Liga NOS, the Eagles traveled to Trás-os-Montes. A subtle touch from the number 14 jersey, after a pass from Rafa, sealed the victory (0-1).
17 January 2018, 13h24
The Eagles entered the game with dynamics and an offensive football. The Argentinean Salvio – Europe's most valuable Argentine winger – was the standout player, with several clear goal opportunities in the first 25 minutes. The goalkeeper Ricardo kept avoiding the Reds' goal.
At halftime, the match whistled by Jorge Sousa kept the deadlock. In the resumption, Benfica had a more attacking approach. Both by the middle and by the wings, the Four-time champions were trying to open the scoring, but when Ricardo did not make a save, the ball would strike the post. Jonas's and Luisão's shots, at 48’ and at 66’, respectively, struck the post.
Benfica maintained the pressure and the winner arrived in injury time. Proving the importance of players who come off the bench have in the final result, Rafa, on the right side, crossed for Seferovic to deflect the ball with a subtle at the near post. At 90’+2’, though the eye of the needle, the Swiss international brought down Chaves' resistance to the joy of the thousand of Benfiquistas that were in the stands
