Pedro Pichardo begins on Friday the 2018 outdoor season with the participation in the Doha Meeting, the first of the Diamond League calendar.

The athlete from Sport Lisboa e Benfica – who has the personal record of 18,08 m in the triple jump, achieved in Havana, in 2015 – will re-encounter Christian Taylor, the North American who was tough to beat in Qatar, in 2015.

On that year, Doha witnessed Pichardo – the World Junior Champion in 2012 – jump 18,06 m, two more centimeters than Christian Taylor (18,04 m), in what was one of the best competitions in the history of the Diamond League, in Doha.

World's vice-champion in 2013 and 2015, Pichardo – who will compete at 16:50 pm – is the fourth best ever in the triple jump, with 18,08 meters, and the present second best, after Christian Taylor (18,21 m). "I count on the support of all the Benfica fans", said Pichardo in short video previewing the participation in the event.

“We saw a lot of celebration, joy, Benfiquismo and glory, inside and outside this stadium,” Ana Oliveira, Benfica's athletics coordinator, told Benfica, about the 17th António Leitão Benfica Race, which she considered ‘another great success’ and which took place on Sunday, March 23.  With Benfica's André Pereira and Paula Martins winning their respective races, and with an impressive 12,500 participants, the race was also marked by a fundraiser for the Pais21 association. Whether it was the 10km Run or the 5km Walk, the atmosphere was one of good cheer, mutual support and, above all, love for Benfica. COP distinguishes Benfica athletes

Benfica athletes Telma Monteiro and Pedro Pichardo were honored by the Portuguese Olympic Committee (COP) on Thursday, November 14, at the 2024 Olympic Celebration, a gala held at SUD Hall Lisbon. Judoka Telma Monteiro was awarded the Prestige Award, which honors “sports agents for the excellence, notability and prestige of their careers”. Pedro Pichardo, triple jump athlete and Paris 2024 silver medalist, received the Sports Excellence Award, which is given to “Olympic medalists, World or European Champions”. Domingos Almeida Lima, Benfica's vice-president, represented the club at the ceremony.
