Alcântara was the spot, this Friday, for a tribute to Germano Figueiredo, former footballer of Sport Lisboa e Benfica, Atlético and of the National Team.

To represent the Club, there were Domingos Almeida Lima, Vice-president, and the glories Palmeiro Antunes and Artur Santos. Elements of the Junta de Freguesia de Alcântara (Parish Council) and the Board members of Atlético Clube de Portugal.

Before unveiling the monument, Domingos Almeida Lima spoke to the presents, starting to justify the absence of the President Luís Filipe Vieira, due to “current managing issues of Sport Lisboa e Benfica”.

“It is up to me to represent the Club and I do it with great honor. I've had the privilege to watch, at young age, Germano playing with the Sport Lisboa e Benfica's jersey and with the jersey of the National Team, therefore, the admiration I have for Germano is not historical, it is factual", he remembered.

Domingos Almeida Lima still remembered… “The performances of a fantastic player, an outstanding sportsman”. For the Vice-president, “Germano was an example”.

"I completely agree that Germano was a genius as footballer and a sensational man. These are the words which synthetize the value of this tribute and, while representing Benfica, I thank the opportunity to celebrate the memory of a great citizen and, most of all, of a great sportsman.

With Benfica, Germano won two European Champions Cups, four National Championships and two Portuguese Cups.
