It starts today, with the opening round of the Champions League, another European football season. Benfica is, once again, present in the UEFA Champions League Group Stage but isn't the only Portuguese club in the biggest club competition in the world. FC Porto and Sporting also gained access to this competition.

On Thursday, also begins the second most important UEFA club competition, the Europa League. Portuguese football will be represented by SC Braga and Vitória SC.

Throughout the season, several refereeing teams will be named by UEFA to referee several games from these competitions.

To all, without exception, football teams and refereeing teams, Benfica wishes all the best in another European season at the highest level. And that all may, once more, contribute for the prestige of Portuguese football.

A moving tribute to Humberto Coelho

Having celebrated his 75th birthday on Sunday, April 20, Humberto Coelho received a heartfelt and well-deserved tribute on Wednesday, April 23, at the Estádio da Luz, during half-time of the Benfica-Tirsense (4-0) second leg of the Portuguese Cup semi-finals. Captain for many years, he wore the Manto Sagrado for “14 fantastic seasons” and, on the pitch, he gave a special thanks to the fans. "This is more than soul, it's an extraordinary mystique! Only at Benfica can you feel this recognition and this glory and memory of having played for the best club in the world," said the former central defender.
