682 minutes played in 2017/18, eight goals in eight official matches and he is top scorer of the national championship (seven goals in six rounds, an average 1,17 goals per game). Jonas is still a clinical finisher, but he is more accurate than in previous seasons.
The numbers speak for themselves. The 33-year-old Brazilian has, at this point, twice as many goals than he had at this stage last season. In 2016/17, in the same number of matches, Jonas had scored four of the 18 goals he scored last season, an average of 0,64 goals per game.
But it is not only in Portugal that Benfica's striker excels. Looking at the top goal scorers of the main European championships, we see that the global and average performance from Jonas matches the record of the most prolific players: Dybala (eight goals in four rounds with Juventus), Falcao (nine in six with Mónaco), Messi (five in four with Barcelona), Lewandowski (five in four with Bayern), Aguero and Lukaku (five in five with Manchester City and Manchester United, respectively).
