Benfica is in the top 5 clubs with the most goals in the European competitions.
13 October 2017, 13h24
Historically, Benfica's DNA is the one from an attacking team, always looking to score goals. Proof of this is the fact that it is the only Portuguese club in the top 5 of goals scored in the UEFA competitions.
With 655 goals in 405 games played (an average of 1,62 per game), the eagles are only bested by Real Madrid, Barcelona, FC Bayern and Juventus. That is what the data released by the European football body shows.
Benfica has a large and rich history in the UEFA competition: two Europeans Champions Club's Cups (1960/61 and 1961/62), runner-up in other five Finals (1962/63, 1964/65, 1967/68, 1987/88 and 1989/90). The club was also present in three UEFA Cup Finals (1982/83, 2012/13 e 2013/14), but never managed to lift the trophy.
It's worth remembering that, in Europa, Bnfica's biggest wins were against the Luxembourger team Dudelange in 1965: 10-0 at Luz and 8-0 away.
