Viktor Goncharenko: “Benfica is a strong team, with seasoned players”

Benfica and CSKA Moscow meet, this Wednesday, in a game from matchday 5 of the Champions League group stage. The coach of the Russian side admits that “in theory, Benfica's squad is the strongest after Manchester United.”

“Sometimes football is not logical, is unpredictable, Benfica is a strong team and with very seasoned players. In theory, Benfica's squad is the strongest after. Manchester United. But sometimes in practice it doesn't work like that”, said Viktor Goncharenko, at the Preview Press Conference.

“After the match against Basel, Benfica changed the formation and every formation change must be targeted to improve the defense or the attack. With the first formation, Benfica attacked more, that way they defend better”, he analyzed.

To wrap things up, Viktor Goncharenko analyzed some player of the squad led by Rui Vitória that, according to the coach, stand out.

“Benfica plays well with ball possession against any opponent. Vitinho spoke a lot about Jonas, who is experienced and very dangerous, he is a special player who attacks in many different ways. I know Jonas very well since Valencia. Pizzi backs him up very well. They are the most important players, as well as Luisão who has been at the club for a long time. Salvio also has a lot of potential”, he stated.

The CSKA-Benfica is scheduled for 5:00 pm (Portuguese time ) this Wednesday and the German Deniz Aytekin will be the referee.
