On a night of intense emotion at Estádio da Luz, Gabriel contributed for Benfica's win (2-1) over Sporting in the first leg of the Portuguese Cup semi-finals. The number 8 jersey opened the scoring in the derby, but the goal was only part of a top class display.
Gabriel beat Renan at 16' and scored the 1-0 at Estádio da Luz.

Apart from the goal (1) and the shots (3), Gabriel, the derby's MVP (according to the platform GoalPoint), also stood out in the defensive moment of the match.
Benfica’s number 8 jersey made 10 ball recoveries and, among other details, he performed 15 defensive actions, racking up five tackles, four interceptions, four blocks and two defensive aerial duels won. As far as passes are concerned, the Brazilian completed 30 of the 42 attempted, according to the website Wyscout.
