Bronze medal for João Silva in Cape Town


The triathlete of SL Benfica closed the podium in the first Triathlon World Cup in 2019.

João Silva, triathlete of Sport Lisboa e Benfica, won the Bronze Medal at the elite event of the Triathlon World Cup, held this Sunday, in the sprint distance in Cape Town (South Africa), which opened the 2019 season.

The Portuguese athlete finished in 52.19 minutes, only 15 seconds behind the winner, the British Alex Yee (52.04 minutes), finishing with the same time of the second placed, the American Tony Smoragiewicz.


In women’s category, also in the sprint distance, the best Portuguese was the benfiquista Melanie Santos, who finished in the 14th position, in 58.50 minutes.

The next round of the Triathlon World Cup takes place in Mooloolaba, in Australia, on March 16.
