Sport Lisboa e Benfica has signed the 34-year-old Brazilian international Theo Lopes for the Men's Senior volleyball team.

The new signing plays has an opposite hitter and has a large experience in the Brazilian volleyball and internationally, namely representing the Brazil national team.

With an always well sustained career, Theo Lopes won the "Superliga", the main championship in Brazil, in 2008/09 for the first time. It was playing for Cimed.

He made his debut for his country national team at the World Cup in Japan, what drew the attention of the Japanese team of Suntory Sunbirds. He helped the team win the Emperor Cup in 2010, the year in which he won the gold in the World League and in the World Cup.

In 2011, he stood out due to the silver medal won in the World League, a competition in which he was named the best attacker. He also won the South American Championship and the bronze at the World Cup.

In 2012/2013 playing for RJX Rio de Janeiro he won the competition for the 2nd time.

Then he moved to Argentina to win three trophies playing for UPCN Voley Club: League; Master Cup and ACLAV Cup. He returned to his country to represent Sesi for three seasons and he played for the Argentine team of Bolívar Voley last season.

Contacted by SL Benfica Official Site, Theo Lopes revealed what led him to accept the proposal.

It's a great club with a winning history, and for any player it's very motivating to be part of a structure as big and serious as Sport Lisboa e Benfica,”, he said.

Challenged to leave a message to the Benfica supporters...

“To the fans I would like to ask them to support us to the fullest, it will be important to achieve our objectives. We will fight for it and we will surely have a great year”, he stated.
