Conti: “It's a dream to be at Benfica”

The “step to Europe and to a big club” is taken.  During the first days with the red jersey, Gérman Conti is living “a dream”, as he confessed in interview to A Bola newspaper and to Benfica media.

“Since my arrival I cannot stop admiring this club’s greatness. I’m slowly knowing teammates. They have welcomed me very well and I’m very grateful. Now, I got to keep walking this road, looking for my place and keep enjoying this moment”, he said.

“I’m surprised with the attention to detail and all we got to do his to be focused on playing, which is what we like to do the most”, he confessed.

In his first experience overseas, the 24-year old defender has the company of some Argentinians...

“I get along with all of them. It’s good for an Argentinian who arrives at a new club to have teammates who speak the same language. That makes our stay even more comfortable”, he admitted.

After more or less a week of training sessions, he has been defending his area from names such as Jonas, Ferreyra and Castillo who, together, have scored 85 goals in the last season.

“They are very challenging, I got to be at my highest level. It’s awesome to have them on the team.”

At Luz, he finds a strong but sane competition with defenders such as Luisão or Jardel, but the Argentinian does not give up easily.

“I know there is a lot of competition, but the competition got to be sane, as has happened. The truth is that both Jardel and Luisão, have welcomed me very well. They are always concerned about me and I thank them for that. It's up to the coach to decide”, he. said

While living the first period of the pre-season, the defender trained at Colón confesses that he is living a "dream”.

“I’m a humble and simple man, who knows that the work previously done was the key to arrive here. It’s a dream for me to be at Benfica and I’ll try to enjoy the best way”, he assured, confessing that it “was a long-waited opportunity.”

“I felt happy, I feel I have the conditions to turn this opportunity into a great step in my career. I preferred to take the step to Europe and to a big club. I would never regret my decision to come to Benfica.”

"Looking forward for Saturday to come, to get to know the supporters"

Scheduled for next Saturday, at 10:00 am, there is an open training session.  An opportunity for the supporters to get to know the new faces of the 2018/19 Benfica, but also for the new players to get in touch with our passionate crowd.

“We are looking forward for Saturday to come, to get to know the supporters. I hope that many of them might come so that we can feel their passion”, he confessed, leaving also a message:

“Count on me, I will give my best on the field. We have a great group which will chase after the best for the team.”
