Shots on target, ball steals, the efficacy of the positional attacks, an interception and fewer shots conceded are some of the statistical parameters that reflect the evolution of Benfica's performance in the matches against Ajax and Tondela.

According to the portal Wyscout, the Eagles increased the percentage of shots on target in the last two encounters. Against the Dutch, Benfica hit eight of the 11 shots carried out (73%); against Tondela, 60% of the shots that hit the target resulted in a goal (3 in 5).

In the passing, there are also notable positive aspects. The 85% passing accuracy is the highest registered by Benfica in the last five matches (640/546); and the rate of passes is the best: 14 every 60 seconds.

Tondela-Benfica

Analyzing the efficacy of the positional attacks, there is an increase in the assertiveness. The team finished more plays with a shot than it had done in the away matches against Ajax (less than 20%). Against Ajax at Luz, Benfica shot in 28% of the attacks; against Tondela, the percentage increased to 35%.

But a match is more than just attacking. The men under Rui Vitória show great willingness when it comes to defending. They recovered 107 balls against Tondela and 97 against Ajax, at Estádio da Luz, when the previous number presented values between 80 and 90 ball recoveries.

In the shots conceded, the number is more favorable. Against Moreirense, Belenenses, and Ajax (away), the goalkeeper Odysseas made always five or more interventions. In Benfica’s last two matches, he did not see the opponent carry out five shots towards his goal.

Another item in which the Reds have improved was in the interceptions. The 24 racked up against Moreirense increased to 42 in the home match against Ajax and to 54 in the trip to Tondela.
