Portugal is the roller hockey world champion, 16 years later. The team where the Benfiquista Miguel Vieira plays beat Argentina from Nicolía and Ordoñez, by 2-1, in the penalty shootout, after a scoreless draw in regulation time and extra-time.

The Portuguese national team won the 16th world title, one title behind the record holder Spain, regaining a title that had eluded the team since 2003, in Oliveira de Azeméis.

Portugal finished second in Group B (beat Colombia by 8-2, drew 1-1 with Argentina and beat Chile by 4-9), the team advance to the quarterfinals where it Italy by 7-5 in extra-time. In the semifinals, Portugal beat Spain (2-4).
