Joana Resende bolsters women's handball

The Portuguese international plays as left-back.

Sport Lisboa Benfica announces that Joana Resende, 18, will play for the senior women's handball team in the 2019/20 season.

She comes from Colégio de Gaia, the current national champions, and she plays as left-back. Joana Resende is one of the great talents of national handball and she is a senior international. She gained experience at Clube de Andebol de Leça and stood out playing for Colégio de Gaia last season, helping the team win the 1st Division National Championship and the Portuguese Cup.

In exclusive statements to the Official Website, the handball player explained the reasons for this change.

“To represent a club like Benfica is undoubtedly a big step in my career. It's a club with amazing conditions and I'm it will be very positive for my evolution”, she started by saying.

“I opted by play at Benfica, not only for the greatness of the club, but also for having the opportunity to get out of my comfort zone and experience something new”, she stressed.
