Rúben Dias, Manchester City center-back and trained at SL Benfica, has been named the Premier League Player of Year 2020/21.

In his first season in England, the 24-year-old Portuguese international, won the Premier League, the EFL Cup, played the Champions League final and was named the Premier League Player of the Year.

This is the 4th time that a center-back wins the award. The former eagle joins a restricted group composed by Virgil Van Dijk, Vincent Kompany and Nemanja Vidic, and is the 2nd Portuguese to take the award, after Cristiano Ronaldo in 2006/07 and 2007/08.

In 2020/21, Rúben Dias played 50 matches with the citizens and scored once.

"A very special moment"

Wearing the captain's armband in this match, Rúben Dias, the scorer of one of the goals, was the "Man of the Match" in Benfica's win over Moreirense on matchday 2 of the Liga NOS. "I am very happy, of course. It was a very important game for me. Being able to enshrine this match with one goal was very special. The chat with Rui Costa? It is a special moment, I believe that everyone already has an idea of why. People left a mark on me... and the club too, it was very special for me. Playing with the armband was very special too", he admitted in the flash interview with BTV.
