Four Sport Lisboa e Benfica players were in competitive action for their national teams, all of them with different competitive contexts and minutes played. Nicolás Otamendi had to face Darwin's Uruguay, with the Argentine international coming out on top.

In the 81 minutes he was on the pitch, the central defender started by marking Luis Suárez closely, managing to win both aerial duels and making, according to Sofascore's data, 65 completed passes out of 71, achieving a 92% pass accuracy. Otamendi was substituted in the 81st minute, when the final score of 3-0 was already reached between Argentina and Uruguay, on matchday 5 of the South American qualifiers for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. Argentina plays against on October 15 against Peru.

Darwin

Darwin wassubbed on by Óscar Tabárez at half-time to replace Nicólas De la Cruz, when Uruguay was trailing by 2-0 in Buenos Aires. The Benfica forward made two shots on target, made two successful dribbles out of three and registered a 85% pass accuracy. The next official match is scheduled for October 15 against  Lucas Veríssimo's Brazil.

The Benfica center-back was an unused substitute in Brazil's trip to Colombia, which ended in a draw (0-0). In Europe, in the Nations League 3rd place playoff, Jan Vertonghen was a starter and captained his team in the 90 minutes that dictated Belgium's defeat (2-1) against Italy.
