"Going to Barcelona with the possibility of qualifying for the round of 16 (...) is something to be proud of", considered the Benfica coach.
22 November 2021, 15h54
Jorge Jesus
What do you expect from Barcelona, now that they have a new coach?
I don't expect a Barcelona with different ideas because they have a new coach. Those who are trained there, like Xavi [Hernández], know what the system of that team is. Both with [Ronald] Koeman and Xavi they played in 4x3x3. Now, each coach gives different dynamics and chooses different players. Xavi's arrival brings a favorable environment that makes the team more confident. But they are still a great team, with players who can make a difference offensively at any time.
"Going to Barcelona with the possibility of qualifying for the last 16 with two matches to go is something to be proud of for Benfica, the players, and the coach"
Jorge Jesus, the Benfica coach
In 2012, a Benfica team coached by you needed to win in Barcelona and drew [0-0]. Tomorrow [Tuesday] will you take more chances?
The scenario is different. Tomorrow [Tuesday], if we draw 0-0 we can qualify. We will play to win, knowing that we will be under pressure defensively, because all teams a forced to defend at Camp Nou and because Barcelona usually has the lion's share of ball possession. We have a chance to go through to the next stage. If we lose, we have no chance; if we win, we get closer and closer; if we draw, we depend on what happens in the Bayern-Barcelona match. Going to Barcelona with the possibility of qualifying for the last 16 with two matches to go is something to be proud of for Benfica, the players, and the coach. We are fighting for qualification with an opponent that is a candidate to win the Champions, even though people are saying that they are weaker. They lost Messi? Ok, he is one of the best in the world, but Barcelona still has a lot of quality in terms of top players and is one of the best teams in the world.
