The líbero of Sport Lisboa e Benfica men's volleyball team Ivo Casas was elected the athlete with the best performance in group D of the group stage of the 2021/22 edition of the volleyball Champions League.

In a vote carried out among fans of the sport, the number 7 of the two-time national champions gathered 52,7% of the votes, beating Benjamin Patch (Berlin Recycling Volleys) with 26,5%. Fedor Voronkov (Zenit) and David Mehic (Vojvodina) were further behind in the voting, getting 18% and 2.8% of the fans' votes.

Ivo Casas was highlighted by the stats in the most important club competition: 83 receptions in total, 45.78% perfect receptions and 32.53% efficiency in reception.

On the afternoon of Tuesday, August 5, Benfica's professional football team departed from Beja International Airport on a charter flight bound for Nice, France. Upon arrival in Beja, the red delegation was warmly welcomed by many Benfica fans, with whom they socialized. At 8 pm (Portuguese time) on Wednesday, August 6, the Eagles face Nice at the Grand Stade de Nice in the first leg of the third qualifying round for the league phase of the Champions League.

On Tuesday, August 5, Benfica's professional football team prepared at Benfica Campus for the match against Nice, the first leg of the third qualifying round for the league phase of the Champions League. Injured players Bah, Manu, Nuno Félix, and Bruma did not participate in training. Aktürkoğlu, due to a sprained right ankle, was another absentee. Tomás Araújo trained individually. Joshua Wynder, Rafael Luís, and João Rego joined Team B training.
