BTV REPORT

The Benfica Foundation received this Wednesday, April 20th, the Social Responsibility Award for the month of March 2022, having distinguished the "We Stand with Ukraine" campaign. This was the third time that Benfica Foundation's projects or initiatives were recognized by Liga Portugal.

The award was delivered by Tiago Madureira, Executive Director of Liga Portugal, to Commander Carlos Móia, Executive President of Benfica Foundation.

"We managed to send six TIR trucks to Ukraine, which took all kinds of goods. Shakhtar Donetsk and the Ukrainian Ministry of Interior understood that they should go to the most difficult areas, where the need was greatest. In Kharkiv, there were 174 delivery points, and in four days they were distributed. It is a joy to know that the goods were distributed. Shakhtar Donetsk thanked us, and Benfica was present. Benfica's social responsibility is internal and external. The Casas do Benfica were very present and the SIC Esperança Foundation was crucial in the communication. It is very important for Portuguese sports that foundations proliferate throughout this country. Sport congregates and aggregates, it is a fantastic vehicle to help people ", mentioned Carlos Móia to BTV.

Tiago Madureira highlighted the "highly meritorious initiative" of the Benfica Foundation. "These awards that the League has introduced seek to show the work that clubs do in terms of social responsibility, showing that football's social importance can be mobilized for intervention actions. It was impossible not to distinguish this action. It will serve as an example of the great social intervention that can be done, using the Benfica brand and football. It was a highly meritorious initiative. It will be a reference", he said.

The "We Stand with Ukraine" campaign mobilized Casas do Benfica, Stores, and Soccer Schools across the country in a major humanitarian assistance campaign that gathered and sent to some of the most critical points in Ukraine more than five thousand boxes packed in 200 pallets with essential goods such as food and medicine.

This campaign was only possible thanks to the mobilization and remarkable solidarity of all the volunteers and partners, among which SIC Esperança stands out, as well as the contribution of all the citizens who supported it, which was crucial for its success.

The volume of donations, transported in six trucks, has already been effectively distributed to the Ukrainian people in the areas of Mykplaiv, Sumy, Okhtyrka, Donetsk, Poltava, and Chernigiv Oblast, also articulating this international cooperation with partner FC Shakhtar Donetsk.
