STATEMENTS TO BTV

João Miguel Fins Veloso, a 16-year-old midfielder (26.06.2005), penned a professional contract with Sport Lisboa e Benfica.

" It is a source of pride for me and my family. It is also a sign that the Club is investing in me. I want to thank Benfica for having believed me throughout these 10 years", assumed the midfielder, to BTV, after signing the new contract.

In the 2021/22 season, the midfielder played for two tiers, Under-19, and Under-17 played 33 matches and scored four goals.

About to turn 17 (June 26), João Veloso is an international with Portugal’s youth national teams and has 23 caps (U-16: six matches and one goal; U-17: 17 games and five goals).

Benfica-Tirsense: extended match highlights (4-0)

In front of almost 50,000 spectators at the Estádio da Luz, Benfica confirmed their qualification for the 2024/2025 Portuguese Cup final on Wednesday night, April 23, by beating Tirsense 4-0 in the second leg of the semi-final (goals from António Silva, Bajrami, Belotti and Barreiro). In the first game, the Eagles had won 0-5. Thus, with a 9-0 aggregate in the semi-final, the Glorioso reached the decisive match of the Portuguese Cup for the 39th time. On their way to Jamor, the Reds overcame Pevidém (0-2), Estrela da Amadora (7-0), Farense (1-3), SC Braga (1-0) and, finally, Tirsense in a two-legged tie.

A moving tribute to Humberto Coelho

Having celebrated his 75th birthday on Sunday, April 20, Humberto Coelho received a heartfelt and well-deserved tribute on Wednesday, April 23, at the Estádio da Luz, during half-time of the Benfica-Tirsense (4-0) second leg of the Portuguese Cup semi-finals. Captain for many years, he wore the Manto Sagrado for “14 fantastic seasons” and, on the pitch, he gave a special thanks to the fans. "This is more than soul, it's an extraordinary mystique! Only at Benfica can you feel this recognition and this glory and memory of having played for the best club in the world," said the former central defender.
