Coming from Shakhtar Donetsk - where he didn't officially play due to the war - the Brazilian assumed, in his first words to BTV, to be "happy to sign" for the reds.
"It is good to arrive in a country where everyone speaks Portuguese and I am very happy to sign for the Club. Benfica is a big club in Europe and in the World", he claimed.
"Everyone knows how strong Benfica is and how great the Club is. I am happy to have the opportunity to play football again, something I love", he highlighted.
In his first experience in Europe, the winger represented Ajax, between 2016/17 and 2021/22, and overcame the adaptation period with flying colors, a situation he hopes to repeat in Portugal.
"I hope the adaptation will be easy. I lived five years in the Netherlands, where the language and climate are totally different. Here, in Portugal, I have everything going for me and I hope it will be easier", assumed Neres.

In the 2018/19 season, the eagles' new signing faced Benfica playing for the team from Amsterdam. After all these years, does he remember the draw (1-1) at Estádio da Luz?
"Yes, I remember. It was a good moment during my time with Ajax and I hope to experience it again at Estádio da Luz for Benfica. I felt the warmth of the fans at the time, the atmosphere in the stadium was very good," he acknowledged.
Already as a Benfica footballer, the winger made himself known and left a promise to the Benfiquistas.
"I am a fast player who looks to score goals. I have technical ability, desire and commitment, and I can assure the fans that there will be no shortage of commitment, dedication, and the will to win", stressed David Neres.
