The national champions face the winners of the League Cup in a new competition format.
11 July 2022, 16h46
Inspiradoras lift the national champion trophy in 2021/22
The 2022 edition has four teams, which will fight for the Super Cup. In the new format, the first two places in the National Championship ( Liga BPI) from the previous season, as well as the winners of the Portuguese Cup and the League Cup will guarantee participation.
Benfica, Sporting, Braga and Famalicão (benefited from Sporting's victory in the Portuguese Cup, in the 2021/22 edition) were the teams present in the draw at the Cidade de Futebol.
The two-time national champions will face Braga, replaying in the semi-final the Super Cup won by the benfiquistas in 2019 (victory in Tondela, by 1-0, with a goal from Pauleta). In the other semi-final, Sporting hosts Famalicão.
The competition then continues in Leiria, on August 26, with two matches. First, at 11:00 am, the losers of the two semi-finals step onto the pitch of the Estádio Dr. Magalhães Pessoa to play the 3rd place playoff. In the evening, at 8:30 pm, it is the turn of the winners of the first two matches to quarrel over who will lift the coveted trophy.
