Roger Schmidt: "Very happy with the team's attitude and performance"

Roger Schmidt analyzed the Midtjylland-Benfica of the 2nd leg of the 3rd qualifying round of the Champions League, a match played on Tuesday, August 9, at the Randers Stadium in Denmark. An uncontested triumph for the eagles (1-3), who had also won in Lisbon (4-1) and thus fly to the play-off of the competition. 

SERIOUSNESS AND FOCUS TOWARDS A COMMON GOAL

"We took another step to reach the group stage of the Champions League and we are satisfied, because we all know how important this is for the Club, for the players, deep down, for everyone. We did well, in fact, we did well in both games, and we deserved this qualification to the play-off. We brought a good result from the first leg, and today we were serious, we scored the 0-1, which was very important. Then we lost a little concentration, some ball possessions, but overall we controlled the game and scored at the right moment... and beautiful goals. I am very happy with the team''s attitude and performance."

THE IMPORTANCE OF SET PIECES

"Set pieces are very important! We have to be very good defensively to avoid goals and we have to work harder on that, but we also have very good players executing them, a lot of options, we've been very successful and we want to continue that. We don't want to celebrate too much about this topic because it is always a challenge to score and work on set pieces, and we are doing it, the assistant coaches are doing a great job on that aspect."

"HAPPY" WITH EVERYONE AND THE "FANTASTIC GOAL" OF DIOGO GONÇALVES

"Chiquinho did well, as did all the players who came on in the second half and later during the match. I am very happy with everyone, but especially with Diogo [Gonçalves]. Sometimes it's hard for me to be fair to all the players and he was very good today, it was his start of the season and he scored a fantastic goal. I am very happy."

THE IMPORTANCE OF OPTIONS

"They are different players. Neres is very dynamic, very good at one-on-one, Chiquinho is another style of player. He was very good in today's match, he worked hard for the team and it's great to have different options in the squad."

"Our task is to succeed in Benfica! We have to bring joy to the fans, that is our biggest mission. If the fans are happy, we are happy!
