Benfica let the game against Caldas go to penalty shootout and only then had the cool head to decide the match and the qualification for the 4th round of the Portuguese Cup.

Helton and João Mário
Roger Schmidt made five changes in the starting XI, when compared to the team that started the match in Paris. Helton, Gilberto, Brooks, Draxler and Rodrigo Pinho started the match at the Campo da Mata. Bah (sick), Otamendi, Rafa and Gonçalo Ramos were left off the game sheet, Odysseas took a place on the bench.
Facing a defensively well organized opponent and in a particularly lackluster first half, the Reds let Caldas believe. At 38', and after Aursnes had a goal disallowed for offside, the best opportunity of the first half came for the home team.
João Silva surprised everyone with a long range shot and forced Helton Leite into an important save – the ball still hit the post of the goal guarded by the Brazilian goalkeeper (38').
0-0 at half-time. Roger Schmidt brought off Florentino and Rodrigo Pinho and launched Diogo Gonçalves and Petar Musa for the second half.
Match commentary
Benfica was faster, and the first good moment of the Reds came from Musa's feet, who at 53', took two opponents out of the way and from the edge of the box beat the Caldas goalkeeper. A goal that froze the Campo da Mata and put the eagles in the lead.
Petar Musa could have scored twice more soon after, but Wilson Soares denied the Reds their second goal of the match.
The home team carried out four substitutions, but it was Benfica that came close again to 0-2. Grimaldo, with a free kick, hit the post at 73'.
The Reds didn't score, but Caldas did. António Silva failed to receive a pass from Brooks, in a forbidden zone, and Gonçalo Barreiras scored the equalizer at 74'.
Benfica reated, but the Caldas goalkeeper denied Diogo Gonçalves. Roger Schmidt brought off Grimaldo and Draxler and fielded Mihailo and Chiquinho.
The Reds insisted and Musa again had the goal at his feet, but was again thwarted. So many missed chances at the Campo da Mata took the match to extra time with a 1-all draw.
For the additional 30 minutes the Benfica coach took off António Silva and launched João Victor, who made his Benfica debut.
The match went to the penalty shootout and, and, in this chapter, the reds were extremely competent. Enzo, Mihailo, Aursnes, Chiquinho and João Mário didn't miss, while for the home team, Clemente shot over the bar.
