Benfica Grimaldo Best Defender December/January

Grimaldo, Sport Lisboa e Benfica's left-back, won the Bwin League's Defender of the Month award for December/January. The Spanish athlete collected 20.63% of the votes of the competition's head coaches.

A starter in the six matches played by the team in this period, Grimaldo played 537 minutes – was replaced at 87' against Arouca – and contributed with two assists and one goal for the 13 points amassed against SC Braga (a), Portimonense (h), Sporting (h), Santa Clara (a), Paços de Ferreira (a) and Arouca (a).

In this distinction, the left-footed player surpassed his teammate Otamendi (11.11%) and Pedro Porro and João Basso (both with 10.32%).

So far in the 2022/23 edition of the Liga Bwin only Benfica players have won the Best Defender award. Besides Grimaldo, Morato was the most voted player in August and António Silva was distinguished in September and in October/November.
