Benfica leads the Liga Bwin with 59 points after beating Vizela (0-2) on matchday 22.
26 February 2023, 00h01
Benfica Players
Bah, Neres and Gonçalo Guedes in place of Gilberto, Chiquinho and Rafa, with Aursnes in the midfield alongside Florentino, were the new additions to the Benfica team compared to the game with Boavista last round.
Guedes was the protagonist in the play that opened the scoring in Vizela. The home team was on the attack, when, on 38', Aursnes recovered the ball in the Benfica box and sent it to Guedes, who took off. The Portuguese international ran about 30 meters with the ball, was fouled, but the ball went to Neres. Then it was the quality of the Brazilian international to lead the play from the left and provide the successful finishing from João Mário in the heart of the penalty box (0-1). What an excellent transition!
Key moments
The second half began with Benfica creating a dangerous situation, with Neres, on 47', shooting to Buntic's save.
Musa was eventually fouled by Anderson in the 87th minute, and referee Nuno Almeida gave the Brazilian defender a second yellow card for another infraction (the first caution was for a hard tackle on Neres).
Benfica's second goal came at the end of the match! Grimaldo was fouled by Matias Lacava inside the penalty box on 90'+3' and, in the respective penalty, João Mário, two minutes later, deceived Buntic and established the result (0-2) of the match, moving to the top of the list of the top scorers of the competition with 14 goals.
Benfica continues to lead the competition, now with 59 points. It was the first time that Benfica, in the Liga Bwin 2022/23, registered four straight wins away from home (Santa Clara, Paços de Ferreira, Arouca and Vizela).
In the next round, MD 23, Benfica hosts Famalicão at Estádio da Luz, in a match scheduled for Friday, March 3, at 9:15 pm.
