João Mário: "We were patient, we scored, and we killed off the game"

It was with a sense of accomplishment that João Mário analyzed Benfica's 2-0 win over Famalicão in the 4th round of the Portuguese Cup. The eagles are through to the last 16 of the competition. 

"We achieved the main objective of the game, which was to get through this round of the Portuguese Cup. We started well and had a first half full of chances. We didn't manage to put them away, but that was down to Famalicão, who defended very well. We were patient, we ended up scoring the first goal, and then we killed off the game with the second goal," he said.

"They are brave. With so many chances that we didn't take in the first half, they kept believing, but the first goal was decisive, and scoring straight after helped the team calm down," he claimed.

João Mário was pleased with his performance after the derby on matchday 11 of the Liga Betclic and the international break.

"We know that breaks are always difficult for all groups. We wanted to give a strong response today, after the derby, and I think we did it. We're through to the next round," he emphasized.
