Benfica players celebrating
The trimph on matchday 18, at Estádio da Luz, against Boavista (2-0), has kept Roger Schmidt's men on two parallel routes to success. On the one hand, Benfica have won five league matches in a row, and on the other, they have been unbeaten in the competition for 17 matches.
Estrela da Amadora, on the other hand, is on a five-game winless streak, and the last time they managed to pick up three points was against Boavista, on December 10, 2023, when they won 3-1. The team from Reboleira, in the current 2023/24 season, was defeated at Estádio da Luz (2-0), on matchday 2 of the Championship.
Benfica and Estrela da Amadora have met 38 times, 33 of them in the league, with the Reds winning 26 (79%) and drawing five (15%). At the José Gomes Stadium, for the League, the Eagles have won 11 of the 16 games played (69%) and drawn three (19%).
The differences between the two teams in the various parameters of the game place them, in several respects, at opposite points in terms of their statistical record in the competition, as shown on the Wyscout platform before the start of round 19.
Focusing on attack, Benfica stands out as the team with the most shots in the competition (310 shots and 40.6% on target, compared to 171 shots and 28.1% on target). The "tricolores" are even the least effective team among those competing. The Eagles are also the team with the most shots outside the box (111 shots against 77).
Also in attack, Benfica is the team with the most one-on-one actions (645 against 427), the second with the most crosses (342 against 253), and the team with the most touches in the opposing penalty area (519 against 281). The Reds are the team with the 3rd best attack (37 goals), while Sérgio Vieira's men are in the group with the fewest goals, with 18, along with Famalicão, Portimonense, Vizela and Chaves.
In terms of passing, the differences are just as substantial. Benfica has made the most passes so far in the competition (9889 and a success rate of 86.3% compared to 6830 and a success rate of 79.5%), with 58.3% possession compared to 46.5% for their opponents, in average terms.
At the back, Roger Schmidt's men are the best defensive team in the competition (11 goals conceded against 27), have allowed 182 shots against 245 for Estrela da Amadora, are the 3rd team to take part in the most defensive duels (1268 against 1161) and have the highest success rate (61.4% against 57.8%).
Individually, Rafa is the player with the most assists (9) and the 2nd with the most touches in the box (109). Di María is the 2nd player with the most shots (57) and crosses (87). Kikas and Léo Jabá are Estrela da Amadora's top scorers in the Liga Betclic, with three goals, while Di María is the eagles' most effective player, with seven goals.
In the 2-0 win over the Axadrezados on matchday 18 of the Liga Betclic, Roger Schmidt fielded a starting XI made up of Trubin, Aursnes, António Silva, Otamendi, Morato, Florentino, Kökcü, Di María, Rafa, João Mário and Arthur Cabral.
