Fernando Seara and the Club's 120th anniversary

Fernando Seara, chairman of the Board of the General Assembly of Sport Lisboa e Benfica, talks about the Glorioso's 120 years of life, marked by triumphs, achievements, moments and indelible marks.

The breadth of an emblem and the contours that have built it up over the years are some of the aspects Fernando Seara praised in an interview with BTV. The meaning of 120 years is not limited to a number or a feeling.

"It means a lot of history, a lot of fervor, a lot of victories, some pain, a lot of pleasure, because we, in the present, are a bridge. We, today, this community that is a Benfiquista Family, we are a bridge between the past we have to honor and the future we have to conquer. That's it, every one of us, in our circumstances, in our responsibilities, that's what we are. We are the interpreters of 120 years of an institution that is a community, that has become a family, that has faith, that has will... a great pride and a great responsibility. But we also have a perspective of what we were and a prospect of what we want to be. That's what Benfica is today! Today's Benfica with its soul, with its hundreds of thousands of members, with the eclecticism that was one of Mr. Cosme Damião's realities", he highlighted.

The Chairman of the Board of the Club's General Meeting also discusses the responsibility of the position he holds in an institution of and for the members.

"I'm the interpreter of the members, of those hundreds of thousands of members, but I'm aware that Mr. Cosme Damião, the founder, was also, as was Mr. Cândido dos Reis, then a group of great men... who interpreted at every moment, in every circumstance, the real meaning of the thousands of Benfica members," he said.
