Farense-Benfica

Roger Schmidt

POST-MATCH

In his analysis of Benfica's trip to Farense on Monday night, April 22, on matchday 30 of the Liga Betclic, Roger Schmidt highlighted the team's dominance and "good goals", which led to a "clear victory", by 1-3.

GOOD REACTION, A LOT OF DOMINANCE AND VICTORY

"JWe played exactly how we wanted to. Our aim was to show a good reaction after Thursday's disappointment [against Marseille]. It's always very important to show character in the next game. Of course, if you play away, and for 120 minutes, it's not so easy, but we had fresh energy on the pitch and played a good game. We created chances, scored a lot of good goals, and it was a good game, with a lot of domination and a clear victory. I'm very happy with the players' performance. But I'm not happy with the performance of our fans, I have to say... In my opinion, it's too much. I can understand that not everyone is happy, sometimes we also lose games and miss goals, but in my opinion, when I evaluate my players, our team... what I always see is that they give everything for Benfica. To be attacked and offended by some people... I don't think that's what they deserve. For me, this kind of reaction isn't acceptable either. It's too much. These people, in my opinion, are not Benfica fans. If they behave like this, in this situation, after we've won a game... Even when we won at home against Marseille [1st leg of the Europa League quarter-finals] they showed a bit of the same reaction. They took us with that feeling to a very important second leg in Marseille, and we saw the difference at our stadium and at the Marseille Stadium. It's not good for Benfica. I know I can't change that, but what I can say is that we need our fans. We need the positive fans, the ones who love Benfica, who support the team. We don't need these people. I hope they stay at home"

CONSTANT EVOLUTION

"I said everything yesterday [Sunday, April 21] at the press conference, on this topic [confidence to start the new season]. And the season isn't over yet. I'm always learning. Every day I try to learn and, in football, my experience is that you have to be open-minded. Every season and every game you get new information, new experiences that you can use for the future. That's what I always do, not just at the end of the season, but throughout the season. It's part of football and life, always evolving."
