Benfica players António Silva e João Neves started in the National Team 3-nil win over the Republic of Ireland. The final preparation match for the 2024 European Championship in Germany took place on Tuesday, June 11, at the Estádio Municipal de Aveiro.

The central defender played the full 90 minutes, in which, according to data from the Sofascore platform, he touched the ball 101 times and, in terms of passing, he was 96% accurate (89 passes out of 93 attempted).

Por sua vez, João Neves played 77 minutes and also stood out for his passing accuracy. The midfielder was 94% effective (84 passes right out of 89 attempted), won three of his five duels and touched the ball 97 times.

Portugal are in Group F of the European Championship, where they will face Czechia (June 18 in Leipzig), Turkey (June 22 in Dortmund) and Georgia (June 26 in Gelsenkirchen).-

A moving tribute to Humberto Coelho

Having celebrated his 75th birthday on Sunday, April 20, Humberto Coelho received a heartfelt and well-deserved tribute on Wednesday, April 23, at the Estádio da Luz, during half-time of the Benfica-Tirsense (4-0) second leg of the Portuguese Cup semi-finals. Captain for many years, he wore the Manto Sagrado for “14 fantastic seasons” and, on the pitch, he gave a special thanks to the fans. "This is more than soul, it's an extraordinary mystique! Only at Benfica can you feel this recognition and this glory and memory of having played for the best club in the world," said the former central defender.
