Diogo Ribeiro won the gold medal in the 50-meter butterfly at the 2024 Spanish Open on Wednesday, June 19. The event takes place in Palma de Mallorca until June 22.

Having set the best time in the qualifying heats of the 50m butterfly and set a new Championship record with 23.48 seconds, the world champion once again showed his credentials in the A final of the event.

Competing in lane 4 in the fight for the medal, Diogo Ribeiro completed the distance in 23.23 seconds, bettering the Championship mark set in the previous round. The swimmer beat off competition from Spaniards Mario Molla Yanes (23.50 seconds) and Alberto Lozano Mateos (23.67 seconds) to win gold.
