Benfica-Celta de Vigo

Barreiro

POST-MATCH STATEMENTS

Speaking to the media, Barreiro commented on his performances so far in pre-season, and also analyzed the start of his career at the club. This Saturday, July 13, at the Estádio Municipal de ÁguedaBenfica drew two-all against Celta de Vigo in the second friendly match of the 2024/25 season.

"It's been two games in a short space of time, there's a lot we're going to analyze. It's been a lot of effort over the last two weeks and there have been a lot of good things, but there are things we need to improve. We had chances in both halves of the game. We'll keep working to do even better," said the midfielder.

Newly arrived in Luz, the Luxembourg international said he was "very happy to be here" with the eagle on his chest and underlined his ambition to "play for every title".

"I've been at Benfica for two weeks and the training sessions are very good. I've been well received, and we're training every day to improve," added the 24-year-old.

Another of the Reds' new signings for 2024/25 is Pavlidis, who, after scoring on his debut for Benfica against Farense, scored both of Benfica's goals against Celta de Vigo. Asked about the Greek striker's performances, Barreiro said that his teammate "played two very good games, scored goals and is very important for the team".

Asked about the possibility of playing alongside João Neves, who has not yet joined the Eagles' pre-season training camp due to his participation in Euro 2024, Barreiro said he was equally happy with the possibility: "So far, I've trained and played with Florentino and the other players who are here. I haven't had the chance to play with João Neves yet, but of course when he's here I'll be happy to have him too."
