Benfica Foundation takes part in the Genuine World Cup

The Benfica Foundation will take part in the Genuine World Cup, an international adapted football tournament that will take place between August 1st and 3rd and will unite Spain, Portugal, the United States and Mexico in its first edition.

Houston será a sede da competição que visa promover a inclusão de pessoas com deficiência intelectual e autismo na sociedade através do desporto. Houston will host the competition, which aims to promote the inclusion of people with intellectual disabilities and autism in society through sport. In addition to the competition, the young participants will have unique opportunities to travel, enjoy cultural and recreational activities, a decisive contribution to their personal and social development. It will also be an opportunity for the various clubs and their coaches to share their know-how and experience in the work developed around inclusive sport.

The first edition of the tournament, organized by Houston Dynamo FC, will feature 12 teams from four countries: the United States, Mexico, Spain and Portugal.

The confirmed teams, in addition to the Benfica Foundation, are the following: Houston Dynamo FC, Inter Miami and Special Olympics Texas (United States), Sporting CP (Portugal), Athletic Club Fundazioa, Fundació Barça, Valencia CF and Nàstic de Tarragona (Spain), as well as the Mexican national team, Querétaro and Tigres (Mexico).

The tournament will feature a group stage, to be played on August 1 and 2, and the final will be held on August 3 at the Shell Energy Stadium, home of Houston Dynamo FC.
