Troféu Liga dos Campeões

Champions League trophy

Present for the 14th time in the last 15 editions of the Champions League, Sport Lisboa e Benfica already know their possible opponents in the 2024/25 league phase. The draw for the new Champions League format takes place this Thursday, August 29 at 5 pm, at the Grimaldi Forum in Monaco.

Benfica have been placed in pot 2 and know that they will play two opponents from each of the pots in one single match, with the certainty that they will play four matches at the Estádio da Luz and another four away.

In the league phase, the Eagles cannot play Portuguese teams, nor can they play more than two teams from the same country.

With the new Champions League format also comes a new way of drawing the league phase. The 36 teams in the competition will be drawn manually using physical balls, but the designation of the opponents and the ordering of the matches will be done by computer using software created for this purpose.
