Florentino, a midfielder for Benfica's Professional Football team, was chosen for the Team of the Week for matchday 2 of the Champions League league stage, UEFA announced on Thursday, October 3.

The central midfielder was praised for his ability in "Benfica's impressive win over Atlético de Madrid", by 4-0, on Wednesday night, October 2, at the Estadio da Luz, where he showed “solid defensive work” in midfield, which, UEFA points out, included “nine ball recoveries and interceptions”.

The selection was made by UEFA's panel of technical observers, supported at each match by the European football governing body's analysis unit in Nyon, Switzerland.

The panel includes coaches such as Portugal national coach Roberto Martínez, Rafa Benítez, David Moyes, Michael O'Neill, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Gareth Southgate, Frank de Boer, Avram Grant and Aitor Karanka, among others.

Two goals, two works of art from the team

The first two goals that led Benfica to victory over Tondela (3-0) on Saturday night, August 23, in Matchday 3 of the Liga Betclic, perfectly reflect the "collective work" emphasized and praised by Bruno Lage after the most recent game played at Estádio da Luz. “It was essential to vary our build-up play, sometimes with two, sometimes with three, also varying the players so that the opponent had no individual references in pressing. Foundation offers a helping hand to Cape Verde

The President of the Republic of Cape Verde, José Maria Neves, visited Estádio da Luz for a meeting with Carlos Moia, executive president of the Benfica Foundation, dedicated to humanitarian aid for the island of São Vicente, recently affected by a severe storm. The head of state emphasized the “long-standing and close relationship” between Cape Verde and Benfica, noting that this cooperation “will have a very strong impact on São Vicente”. Carlos Moia stressed that “the people themselves and their needs are important,” guaranteeing that all hospital supplies will be in Cape Verde by mid-September.
