On Wednesday, June 11, Samuel Soares, Benfica's goalkeeper, started for the Under-21 National Team in the 0-0 draw with France, on matchday 1 of Group C of the European Championship in this category. The match was played at the Sihot Stadium in Trencin, Slovakia.
