Receção Presidente da República de Cabo Verde

Carlos Moia, Débora Carvalho, José Maria Neves and Jorge Miranda

BTV REPORT

The President of the Republic of Cape Verde, José Maria Neves, met at Estádio da Luz with the CEO of the Benfica Foundation, Carlos Moia, to discuss humanitarian aid for the island of São Vicente, which was recently hit by a storm that caused severe damage to the population. As part of the humanitarian aid effort led by the Foundation, medicines and hospital supplies will be sent to the most affected regions.

Underlining the historical relationship and proximity between Cape Verde and Sport Lisboa e Benfica, José Maria Neves pointed out the importance of this cooperation based on solidarity.

"This relationship goes back a long way. Cape Verde and Benfica have a very close relationship. It is perhaps the country with the most Benfica fans per square meter. This intense friendship allows Benfica and the Benfica Foundation to show constant care for Cape Verde. This cooperation to help the island – and where there is friendship, there is care – will have a very strong impact on São Vicente, on the people of São Vicente, and on the people of Cape Verde. It is in the area of health, a very sensitive area, and it comes at a good time, allowing us to make a qualitative leap in the responses we will have to give to people, to different families, to companies. It is moments like these that show us the extent of the friendship that exists", he said in statements to BTV.

Carlos Moia also emphasized that the Benfica Foundation's priority is to respond to the real needs of the Cape Verdean population, highlighting the scale of the support currently being provided.

"There are many Benfica fans in Cape Verde, but that is not historically important to me. What is important is the people themselves, the needs of the people. We feel the needs in Portugal, and we feel that there are many more needs in Cape Verde. So, we have always been present, for many years now, and, once again, we will be here with a great deal of hospital aid", he stated, guaranteeing that by mid-September all supplies will be in Cape Verdean territory.
