The Benfica Foundation recently delivered over 50 pallets of medicines and hospital supplies to the island of São Vicente in Cape Verde, as part of its humanitarian aid efforts following the storm that hit the region on August 11. Several partners, including Hospital da Luz, TAP, DPD, CuidaFarma, Quilaban, and Generis supported the initiative.

The Foundation's delegation, led by Executive President Carlos Moia, traveled to the city of Praia, continuing its collaboration with the Presidency of the Republic of Cape Verde, which has been closely monitoring the response to the needs of the affected population.

During the visit, neighborhoods with potential for future social interventions were identified, in partnership with the Dretu Foundation, with which a cooperation agreement was signed.

The initiative reinforces the internationalization of the Benfica Foundation and strengthens relations with Portuguese-speaking African countries (PALOP), promoting social development through sport.

Foundation offers a helping hand to Cape Verde

The President of the Republic of Cape Verde, José Maria Neves, visited Estádio da Luz for a meeting with Carlos Moia, executive president of the Benfica Foundation, dedicated to humanitarian aid for the island of São Vicente, recently affected by a severe storm. The head of state emphasized the “long-standing and close relationship” between Cape Verde and Benfica, noting that this cooperation “will have a very strong impact on São Vicente”. Carlos Moia stressed that “the people themselves and their needs are important,” guaranteeing that all hospital supplies will be in Cape Verde by mid-September.
